'Rogue One' Toys In Fan-Made Stop-Motion Shorts: Watch 3 Winners In 'Star Wars' Challenge (Exclusive)
Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy might have shot down talk of a sequel to Rogue One, but that’s not stopping a ragtag band of Star Wars filmmaking fans from taking matters into their own hands.
Back in September, Lucasfilm and Disney launched Go Rogue, a series of four stop-motion animated shorts loosely based on the story of Rogue One and starring a bunch of new toys. After the episodes debuted, the Star Wars brain trust asked fans to take action figures and create their own mini-movies with a chance at attending an exclusive early screening of the film at Skywalker Ranch. A panel of judges, led by Rogue One director Gareth Edwards and Ashley Eckstein, the voice of Ahsoka Tano on The Clone Wars and Rebels animated series, has selected the winners, and Yahoo Movies is exclusively premiering the best shorts from the U.S. and Canada below.

This first clip, titled What Will You Become? and created by Joel E. from Oregon, was chosen as the winner of the 18-plus age group. It imagines what would happen after the events of the movie, with the team gathered around a table talking about their future plans. Highlights include pilot Bodhi Rook’s dreams of “making my spaceship concepts a reality” (like the T-wing, Q-wing, and Emoji-wing) and frog-like Rebel fighter Pao announcing, “I’m going to sign up for Admiral Ackbar’s Acting School for Amphibious Humanoids” to follow in the thespian footsteps of the Mon Calamari general.
Next up is Krennic’s Wish by Luke H. from Ontario, which topped the age 13-17 submissions. The short features a claymation Krennic asking Darth Vader for some less inept stormtroopers.
Finally, there’s One Force by Ian M. from Indiana, which features the feel-good story of the Rogue One team finding strength in unity.
There were also winners from New Zealand, Germany, Mexico, and Malaysia; those videos will be unveiled later today at StarWars.com.
