Ron Perlman Casts Doubt on 3rd ‘Hellboy’ Movie
In 2004, Hellboy was a modest hit. Critics liked it and it was number one at the box office its opening weekend. And then, 2008 arrived and with it, a sequel, Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Critics liked it, maybe even a little bit more than the first installment. Hellboy II also did better with audiences, earning more money worldwide this time around.
Given how superhero franchises are all over the place these days, one would expect that there would have been at least two or three more Hellboys since then, but it’s been over eight years since The Golden Army, and a third one has yet to have been made.
Unfortunately, if you’re a fan of the work director Guillermo del Toro and star Ron Perlman did, it seems you’re going to have to keep waiting. Perlman, in an interview with Screen Rant, had no good news. He said that he and del Toro don’t talk about Hellboy 3 anymore.
He elaborated that it’s because “[del Toro is] busy, and I’m busy. Maybe one day he’s going to call and say, ‘Hey, let’s do it.’ But for right now? We’re happy discovering new worlds to conquer.” Those new worlds to conquer include the upcoming Netflix animated series Trollhunters. Perlman is lending his voice, alongside Kelsey Grammer and the late Anton Yelchin, to the series created by del Toro.
As Screen Rant noted, Perlman has been the biggest advocate for a new Hellboy movie, so if he’s not optimistic about it, probably nobody is.
