The superheroes of Hollywood have done a helluva job tending to the real world lately. We’ve seen Chris Evans (Captain America) and Chris Pratt (Star-Lord) visit Seattle Children’s Hospital, and Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) raise over $2 million for Julia’s House children’s hospices.
Now Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) has gotten into the act. The star entertained Tony Acevedo, a child fighting Hodgkin’s lymphoma, to the Vancouver set of Deadpool this week as part of a Make-a-Wish fulfillment.
“I wasn’t expecting him to sneak the mask, put on the gloves, smile… and then beat Deadpool about the face, arms and jugular with blazing speed,” Reynolds wrote on Instagram. “Tony’s next fight is with Hodgkin’s Disease. Hodgkin’s Disease best be wearing its brown pants.” (And yes, Reynolds is quoting to the sailor-mouthed crimefighter, implying the debilitating disease will be soiling itself.)

Though Deadpool promises to be very much R-rated, Reynolds is still using his latest stint as a superhero as a way to thrill the kids. Last week he posted a photo of himself from set, all bloodied up and posing with 15-year-old Calista King, whom he called the world’s greatest Deadpool fan and who got to cameo in the film.
“Sure, I said a lot of terrible words around her,” he wrote. “And her mother. And especially her grandmother. But more importantly, she left with Deadpool’s sword. I can’t think of a better person to have it.”
