'Star Wars' Trailer Viewed 88 Million Times in 24 Hours
Watch the teaser for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’
Just couldn’t wait to watch the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer on Thursday? You’re not the only one. Disney announced at Star Wars Celebration on Sunday that the teaser was viewed over 88 million times in its first 24 hours globally. That’s a massive number, equivalent to the entire population of Egypt watching the trailer at once, or every single person in England (where the movie was largely filmed) watching it one-and-two-thirds times. We don’t know if this is officially a world record for first-day online trailer views, but it certainly puts the new Star Wars ahead of last year’s Furious 7 trailer (which sped to 62 million views in 24 hours) and the recent Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer (which soared to 35 million views in 24 hours).

A Disney rep tells Yahoo Movies that the 88 million figure includes YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and global social media platforms. On YouTube alone, the Force Awakens teaser reached 30.65 million views during the first 24 hours. That doesn’t surpass the YouTube record set by Psy’s video for “Gentleman,” which clocked 38.4 million views the day it premiered in 2013, but it’s close enough to prove that the Force is strong with this one.
