Watch: Tatiana Maslany lands She-Hulk lead role

Tatiana Maslany has poured a bucket of cold water on the suggestion that she will take on the title role in Marvel’s upcoming She-Hulk series on Disney+.

The Orphan Black star told Canadian newspaper The Sudbury Star that the much ballyhooed news of her involvement “actually isn’t a real thing”.

She added: “It’s like a press release that’s gotten out of hand.

“It’s totally not... I’ve been connected to these things in the past and press has gotten onto it, but it’s not actually a thing, unfortunately.”

Deadline reported the 35-year-old’s casting in September and Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo tweeted to welcome the new addition to “the family”.

Maslany’s denial is certainly unexpected, but may just be an abundance of caution given that Marvel has never officially confirmed the casting.

Numerous other stars have been connected to the role, including Alison Brie, but the Maslany announcement seemed as official as anything not coming directly from Marvel could be.

She-Hulk is attorney Jennifer Walters, who gains big, green superpowers when she has to receive an emergency blood transplant from her cousin, Bruce Banner.

The Disney+ series is due in 2022 and has veteran TV director Kat Coiro — best known for Dead To Me, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia and Brooklyn Nine-Nine — signed on as an executive producer.

Coiro will direct the pilot, along with several other episodes, while Rick & Morty’s Jessica Gao is in charge of the writers’ room.

She-Hulk is just one of numerous Marvel projects currently incubating over at Disney+, with the mind-bending sitcom WandaVision set to be the first out of the blocks after revealing a bizarre trailer.

Also in production are The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, and Tom Hiddleston returning to his iconic villain role in Loki.

The question now is whether Tatiana Maslany will really be going green to join them after all.
