The Beachfront Home from 'Something's Gotta Give' Just Sold for $41 Million

If you’ve ever seen a Nancy Meyers-directed movie — her credits include It’s Complicated and The Parent Trap — then you’ve probably fantasized about living in one of those beautiful houses (that practically have starring roles in her films). Well, you could turn that fantasy into a reality with just $41 million! That’s the price paid by the newest resident of 576 Meadow Lane in Southampton, New York — better known as the beach house where Jack Nicholson fell for Diane Keaton in 2003’s Something’s Gotta Give.

The New York Daily News reports that the buyer of the 11-bedroom mansion is Jimmy Tisch, CEO of Loews Corporation, who purchased the property in an “off-market” deal. The 8,000-square-foot dwelling was built by the previous owner, Mediabistro.com CEO Alan Meckler, who began construction shortly after purchasing the oceanfront property for $5.5 million in 1999. Nicknamed “Billionaires Lane,” the beachside road in the tony Hamptons neighborhood is populated almost exclusively by titans of industry — in the movie, it’s a playwright (played by Diane Keaton) who lives at that address.

The Hollywood-perfect homes in Meyers’ romantic comedies, which also The Holiday and What Women Want, have always been a part of their appeal. The Something’s Gotta Give house became a particular object of fascination for film and design obsessives, inspiring articles in Architectural Digestand Elle Décor.

“It’s every woman’s dream house — the house that, if you became successful and could afford a beach house, yours would look like,” Meyers told Elle Décor.

It should be noted, however, that 576 Meadow Lane was only used for the movie’s exterior shots. The interiors were furnished on a soundstage, meaning that Something’s Gotta Give’s much-imitated kitchen wasn’t part of the $41 million price tag.
