The Ghostbusters Get Some Fantastic NBA Recruits in Two New Promos

As early, controversy-inciting trailers have made clear, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones — a.k.a. the headliners of Paul Feig’s upcoming Ghostbusters reboot — aren’t afraid of the undead. And, as it now turns out, neither are some of the NBA’s past and present stars.

In two new promos timed to the ongoing NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers, a ghoulish plague has swept across both the East and West coasts. Who you gonna call? Apparently, if you’re in Madison Square Garden, your best bets are the New York Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis (who are accompanied by two legendary friends). And if you’re out in L.A.? There’s a certain retired Los Angeles Lakers icon who’s on the specter-combatting case:

An earlier behind-the-scenes clip at The Players Tribune gave fans a peek at Kobe Bryant suiting up to become a proton pack-wearing hero. Though the clip is merely a tease for the full-length commercial, its brief glimpse at his outfit does prove that Bryant remains committed to the nickname, “The Black Mamba,” which he recently trademarked after giving it to himself years ago following a viewing of Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Volume 2:

Melissa McCarthy, for one, doesn’t sound like she needs Bryant, Anthony, or anyone else’s help in combatting ghouls or Ghostbusters haters, telling The Guardian that online detractors of the upcoming sci-fi comedy need to “find a friend.” Undoubtedly, though, she’ll be fine with Knicks and Lakers ballers serving as a back-up for her all-female ghostbusting team.

You can watch the NBA’s all-stars take on Slimer and company in the promo above. Ghostbusters hits theaters on July 15.
