What Happened to Tom Cruise’s Stunt Double Tom Crooze?
In the upcoming Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Tom Cruise dangles from the side of an airplane as it takes flight, a stunt that he recently described to Yahoo as “the most dangerous thing I’ve ever done.”
Which begs the question: Whatever happened to Cruise’s go-to stuntman Tom Crooze? The erstwhile daredevil used to perform all of Cruise’s toughest stunts, as evidenced by the above video from the 2000 MTV Movie Awards. From the Mission: Impossible II cliff dangle to the Risky Business floor slide, Crooze was always down for a challenge. But strangely, Cruise’s namesake body double seems to have disappeared after his moment in the spotlight 15 years ago. Is it because Cruise is hell bent on doing his own dangerous stunts, like hanging from the world’s tallest building for 2011’s Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol? Could it be that an injury took Crooz out? Or might an uncanny resemblance to Ben Stiller have been his downfall? We may never know what happened to the man whom Cruise once praised so highly, telling the MTV audience: “He’s harmless.”
