What to Stream: Family-Friendly Movies for Halloween
Halloween is fast approaching, so we want to get you ready for the holiday with some of the best films of the season. This week, we’re recommending three family-friendly frightfests you can stream right now.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Though there are many of Tim Burton films that will be remembered through time, there is possibly none that quite captivated audiences as much as this 1993 stop-motion animated film. Featuring the voices of Catherine O’Hara and famed composer Danny Elfman, this classic was Oscar-nominated and also happens to be one of the best Christmas movies too. The Nightmare Before Christmas is free to stream with a Hulu subscription.
The Monster Squad
Let’s step back to 1987 for a film that became a cult classic. Written by Lethal Weapon and The Nice Guys scribe Shane Black, this movie features a who’s who of classic cinema monsters. In it, a group of friends must band together to save the day against Dracula, the Mummy, the Wolfman, and others. The Monster Squad is available to rent on YouTube.
Hocus Pocus
And finally, heading back to 1993, this fun film stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as a trio of evil witches who seek to take control of Salem, Mass., on Halloween night. A teen and his little sister, played by a very young Thora Birch, are on the mission to stop them. Hocus Pocus is available to rent on Amazon.
