Are Adam Levine and Blake Shelton Unstoppable on 'The Voice'?
We're well into the sixth season of "The Voice," and still no one has been able to topple the unstoppable reign of original coaches and longtime bromancers Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. Adam has won twice, Blake has won three times, and as of this writing, neither of them has lost a contestant this season — while fellow Season 6 coaches Shakira and Usher are already down to one team member each.
This prompts the question: Are Adam and Blake just so popular that at this point, fans are voting more out of loyalty to "Team Adam" or "Team Blake" than for any particular contestant? It would seem that way, but the superstar coaches themselves say no.
"You know what? No, I don't think that," Adam told Yahoo Music's Reality Rocks after Monday's live top eight show. "I think that it's very easy to come to that conclusion, so I understand it. However… we're all very popular, Shakira and Usher and Blake and myself. I think that it really boils down to what the coaches do with their teams. I've done the wrong thing about a million times, and I've suffered the consequences. People don't care at the end of the day. They are not going to just vote for somebody because they support us."
"I think if you looked statistically, CeeLo came as close to winning this thing year after year as you can," mused Blake. "He had amazing singers, and just because he came up short at the very end… if you looked at his consistency working with his artists and picking the right one… I think it's more of learning from the [Blind Auditions] to the [live shows]. If there's one thing that we've learned as coaches, it's that you take the ones that you think can win, and when you figure out who those are and you get good at it, then it's up to the artists. I mean, you help with song selection, you give them ideas, but it's in their hands."
This week, with a triple-elimination, it's inevitable that either Adam or Blake will lose at least one contestant. But both coaches still seem confident they can win. "I think [this year's winning coach] rhymes with 'Madam Bebine'; the loser rhymes with 'Jake Melton,'" joked the hypercompetitive Adam.
And as for Adam's new bleach job, which was the talk of Twitter over the weekend and on "The Voice" Monday night, Adam seemed tired of discussing it, but he did say: "Maybe I'll dye it pink next week, just to piss people off even more." So watch this space — and see how that might affect his popularity in the votes.
