An Interview with Julia Michaels
Imagine writing a hit for Justin Bieber. Or Selena Gomez... Or maybe Hailee Steinfeld? How about ALL of those artists, plus more. That's exactly what singer-songwriter, Julia Michaels, did, and now she's sliding out from behind the scenes and onto the glorious stage. Michaels wrote her first song, "Slow Down," for Selena Gomez when she was only 19, and now she's one of the most in-demand songwriters in the pop music world, co-writing a slew of hits alongside Justin Tranter, another high profile songwriter who has written songs for Gwen Stefani, Britney Spears, and more in addition to fronting his own band, Semi Precious Weapons. Now it's time for Michaels to have a slice of the spotlight and with only one song under her belt, she is owning it. She just dropped her debut single, "Issues," to tons of critical acclaim. And she's not just getting love from critics - she's also getting an overwhelming amount of chart love: a spot on Top 40 Radio, almost 140 million streams on Spotify, Top 5 of iTunes Top Pop Songs Chart, and so much more (like receiving platinum certification status in Australia, Sweden, and Norway). Julia Michaels is shaping up to be her own pop star, and a pretty damn good one at that. She has an EP coming out later this year but while we wait for that, we'll continue to add streams to her fire track, "Issues."
