1,000-gallon sewage spill reported in Fairhope, city says

FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WKRG) — Officials with the Fairhope Water and Wastewater Department advise residents to exercise caution in the area following a sewage spill.

According to a department press release, a sewage spill occurred in Fairhope at Laurel Brook subdivision on Thursday, June 27.

The overflow, which officials said happened after a contractor broke a sewer force main, lasted from 3:30 p.m. to 5:25 p.m. and resulted in an estimated 1,000 gallons overflowing into the storm drain that leads to Water Hole Branch.

Department officials said the overflow was contained to the retention pond and did not enter the receiving water. The release also notes the area was cleaned and disinfected with bleach.

Following the overflow, the release said, “The Fairhope Water and Wastewater Department urges residents to exercise caution while in the area.”
