10 years later, Algiers murder remains unsolved
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — On Sept. 12, 2014, Shandon Barnes was driving near the corner of Flanders Street and General Meyer Avenue around 4 in the afternoon when someone opened fire into the blue SUV he was driving. A decade later, the murder remains unsolved. The case is the latest one to roll on the Wheel of Justice.
Crimestoppers offered a $2,500 reward for information that led to an arrest and indictment in the case. It’s typical for the organization to offer rewards for two years following most homicides. In this case, the reward was available for nearly a decade, having expired in May of this year.

Barnes’ body was found slumped over the wheel of the blue Chevy Trailblazer he was driving. The car crashed near the corner of Flanders and Socrates streets. Since Barnes’ death — and many years prior to it — WGNO News has followed multiple homicides in that same area. In all of them, police announced a suspect or arrest or even a person of interest. But 10 years since Barnes was killed, no one has been convicted of the crime.

So far, more than 470 people have been booked after their cases rolled on the Wheel of Justice.
