14-year-old driver killed in 3-vehicle crash
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 14-year-old driver died after speeding in a three-vehicle crash late Sunday night, according to Buffalo police.
Police observed a 2017 Hyundai Elantra, which they said was stolen out of Buffalo, going at a high rate of speed around 11:20 p.m. Sunday in the area of Elmwood and Hertel Avenue.
When officers tried to pursue the vehicle, the driver, a male, ran a red light, crashed into a vehicle traveling eastbound on Amherst and then spun and hit a third vehicle going north on Elmwood. The speed of the car was found to be 77 mph upon impact and had reached up to 83 mph leading up to the crash.
In a press conference, police said the teen was a student at Southside Elementary. He was pronounced dead at ECMC. Police said the drivers in the other cars had minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
The crash is under investigation. Per state law, the Attorney General’s office has been contacted and will conduct their own investigation.
