16.2M borrowers approved under student debt relief plan. How many are from Florida?
Approximately 16.2 million people seeking student loan debt relief have received approval under President Joe Biden's provisional plan, according to an analysis of U.S. Department of Education data by LendingTree.
Of those people awaiting the Supreme Court's decision, 1,047,400 million are Floridians, according to a news release from the online lending marketplace.
Michael Kitchen, LendingTree's student loan expert, said federally held student loans account for the "vast majority of all U.S. student debt."
The current pause on repayments ends in June, with payments resuming 60 days later, if Biden's plan fails to come to fruition.

The amount of debt forgiveness requested by approximately 16.2 million people amounts to $210 billion.
Nine million additional borrowers who are yet to receive formal approval could add $117 billion.
