TUSCUMBIA, Ala. (WHNT) — The Tuscumbia Police Department (TPD) says a teenager was injured following a fight in Tuscumbia on Sunday night.
According to police, a 17-year-old reported being shot in the arm around 7:15 p.m. during a fight outside of the Willie Green Recreational Center.

The department said Hellen Keller Hospital was put into a soft lockdown when the victim arrived. This is reportedly a standard procedure for gunshot victims.
While information given to News 19 by law enforcement initially stated the teenager had been hit by a bullet and had a ‘superficial mark’ on his arm, TPD later clarified the injury has no indication of being the result of a gunshot and the teen was physically assaulted.
TPD told News 19, “There were apparently only shots fired ‘in the air’ during the altercation.” In a press release, police said someone in the crowd had fired several rounds into the air to break up the fight.
No other injuries have been reported at this time. The incident remains under investigation by the Tuscumbia Police Department.
Police ask that if you have any information that may be helpful to the investigation, please call TPD at 256-383-3121.
