18-year-old charged with attempted murder for shooting victim, firing at occupied vehicle
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — An 18-year-old woman was arraigned Monday on an indictment charging her with four counts of attempted murder after she allegedly shot a victim and then fired at an occupied vehicle, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced.
It is alleged that Cecelia Medina, also known as Cecelia Speed, of no permanent address, brandished an illegal gun in a residence on Bailey Ave around 3:20 p.m. June 22. Officials said she fired multiple times into the home, striking one of the occupants and causing serious injury.
Medina then allegedly shot multiple times at a nearby vehicle, almost striking two of the occupants.
“The defendant is accused of injuring an innocent bystander while firing shots at an occupied vehicle in the middle of the afternoon,” said Acting Erie County District Attorney Mike Keane. “Thankfully, the victim survived and no one else was injured. I commend the members of the Buffalo Police who quickly responded to the scene and apprehended the suspect. Gun-related violence will not be tolerated.”
Medina was charged with four counts of attempted murder, one count of first-degree burglary and one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
She remains held without bail. She is scheduled to return to court Sept. 11 for a pre-trial conference. If convicted of the highest charge, Medina faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.
