20 Chiefs rally shooting victims receive ‘KC Strong’ fund money
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A FOX4 follow up to an investigation surrounding the money raised for the victims of the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl rally shooting.
The KC Strong Fund stepped up to help those impacted and people donated more than $2 million. But nothing had happened with that money until now.
“It’s a great day it’s been a hard road it’s bitter sweet in a lot of ways because we know our community is still healing from what happened on February 14,” Kera Mashek the director of communications for the United Way of Greater Kansas City said.
‘Kansas City we’re thankful you’re a generous community you showed up and showed out really from the beginning,” Mashek said.

Over the course of the donation period more than 4,000 people and organizations contributed, raising more than $2 million. On Thursday, 20 victims received over $1.2 million of that fund, those payments ranging from $22,000 to $100,000 each.
Along with that 14 separate groups, including AdHoc Group Against Crime, the Boys and Girls Club and KC Mothers in Charge received payments of nearly $60,000.
‘I know that it’s been a process to get to where we are today but this is something that we had to do absolutely right to bear the responsibility of the amount of money that was raised,” Mashek said.
