20-year-old dead after shooting on Cedar Road following alleged parking dispute
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Cheektowaga man was pronounced dead following a shooting Saturday in Cheektowaga caused by an alleged parking dispute, according to police and family members of the victim.
Officials said just before 5 p.m., dispatchers received 911 calls reporting that a man was shot on Cedar Road.
Upon arrival, police said officers found Md Rawnaq Ratin, 20, and attempted life-saving measures at the scene. Ratin was then transported by ambulance to ECMC where he was pronounced dead.
Family members of Ratin told WIVB News 4 that the initial dispute began due to a disagreement about parking. Ratin was parked on the street in front of an empty lot, they said. An argument then broke out between him and someone living in the neighborhood before the shot was fired.
According to police, one of the 911 callers identified himself as the person who fired the gun and waited for police to arrive at the scene. Police recovered a firearm they believe was used and started an investigation into the circumstances around the shooting, authorities said.
