$25,000 loss reported at Topeka thrift store fire

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka firefighters doused a fire at a local thrift store Wednesday that caused thousands of dollars in damage.

The Topeka Fire Department (TFD) was called just before 7:30 p.m. on May 29 to Dandy Deals located at 1801 S. Kansas Avenue. Fire crews found smoke and flames coming from the building and were able to put out the fire with no injuries reported.

City of Topeka spokeswoman Rosie Nichols said a TFD investigation unit is looking in to what caused the fire. Total estimated losses associated with the fire come to $25,000 with $15,000 attributed to structural damage and $10,000 to content loss. No working smoke detectors were located in the building.
