3 hurt in pair of overnight Champaign shootings
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Champaign Police Department is investigating a pair of overnight shootings that left a total of three people hurt, two of them seriously.
Champaign Police officials said there is no indication that the shootings are related. As such, they are being investigated separately.
3 hurt in pair of overnight Champaign shootings
The first happened in downtown Champaign near Main and Fremont Streets. Department officials said officers patrolling the area heard gunshots at 1:19 a.m. Saturday and began heading toward the sound. On scene, officers found a 42-year-old woman from Rantoul in a vehicle; she had been shot in the leg.
Officials said the officers rendered medical aid to the victim before taking her to the hospital via personal vehicle. She remains hospitalized but is listed in stable condition.
Investigators determined that the shooting was done by an unknown man who shot the woman and then fled the area.
The second shooting happened almost 90 minutes later on Colleen Drive. Officials said two teenagers — a male, 16, from Champaign and a female, 18, from Dewey — were driving westbound when an unknown subject walked up to them and opened fire, hitting both teens multiple times in their torsos.
The two fled the area in their car and called 911, officials said, before stopping for help at Fire Station 3 on Bradley Avenue.
Firefighters and responding police officers rendered medical aid to the teens before having them taken to the hospital via ambulance. Both are listed in serious condition.

The investigation into both shootings is ongoing and so far, no one has been arrested in either case.
Champaign Police are asking the public for help in both shooting investigations. If anyone with a home or business in the areas where the shootings happened has exterior surveillance cameras, they are asked to review their footage and look for suspicious people or vehicles.
Anyone with video footage or other information can submit a tip to either the Champaign Police Department at 217-351-4545 or Champaign County Crime Stoppers at 217-373-8477. Tips to the latter organization are anonymous and eligible for a cash reward should an arrest be made using the information provided.
