31-year-old Wisconsin firefighter killed in motorcycle crash near Alpine Valley

LAFAYETTE, Wis. (WFRV) — A 31-year-old Wisconsin man died following a motorcycle crash near the entrance of one of the state’s most popular ski resorts.
The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a report of a crash involving a motorcycle and another vehicle at the intersection of County Highway D and Townline Road, near the entrance to Alpine Valley in Lafayette.

Authorities found the motorcycle’s driver, 31-year-old Maxwell Bayer of Franksville, in the northwest ditch. Deputies attempted life-saving measures before Bayer was transported to the East Troy Municipal Airport for transfer to a medical helicopter. However, Bayer was pronounced dead at the airport.
Bayer was a 14-year member of the Raymond Fire and Rescue Department, who confirmed his death in a release.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 17-year-old boy from Eagle, was uninjured and is cooperating with investigators.
The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the crash. No further details have been released.
