1 dead, 4 hurt after Thursday crash on Greenwell Springs Road
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — One person has died and four others were injured after a crash on Greenwell Springs Road near Rolling Oaks Avenue on Thursday, Sept. 12.
Central Police Chief Roger Corcoran said Juan Guerra, 29, of Greenwell Springs, was killed in the crash.
Guerra was the only person in a white SUV when it drifted off the road. Police said Guerra attempted a recovery maneuver to steer the vehicle back onto the road but overcorrected, causing his vehicle to leave the southbound lane.
The car crossed the center line entering the northbound lane of travel into the direct path of a 2015 Chevy Pickup occupied by three adults and a juvenile, police said.
CPD said they were all taken to the hospital after the crash. Guerra died from his injuries at the hospital.
After the crash, the Central Police Department said Greenwell Springs Road was closed between Hooper Road and Wax Road as officers investigated the scene. Central PD encouraged residents to avoid the area at that time.
