53-year-old man killed by lightning at Holden, Missouri rodeo

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Holden Police Department released a statement Monday regarding a fatal lightning strike that killed a man at a rodeo in Holden, Mo. Friday night.

According to officers, emergency responders were called to the Holden Chamber of Commerce Rodeo at the city park just after 11:00 p.m. on reports of a lightning strike in a parking area.

Police said the victim was a 53-year-old man.

As emergency responders arrived, they attempted to perform life-saving operations on the man and took him from the scene. The Holden Police Department said he later died from his injuries.
