6-year-old girl killed in Baldwin County crash; undocumented Honduras man now charged with manslaughter

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — A 6-year-old girl was killed after a single-vehicle crash happened early Monday morning in Baldwin County, according to a spokesperson with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

According to ALEA, the girl was riding as a passenger in a 2003 GMC Yukon just after 3 a.m. Monday when it left the roadway and overturned, leaving her critically injured. She was not wearing a child restraint at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle.

The girl was later pronounced dead at the hospital where she was transported following the crash.

An ALEA spokesperson said the crash happened on Baldwin County 28 near George Younce Road, which is 5 miles south of Robertsdale.

25-year-old Zelvin G. Pavon-Gomez of Summerdale was driving the vehicle, was injured and taken to South Baldwin Medical Center in Foley.

Pavon-Gomez was later transported to the Baldwin County Jail. He is originally from Honduras and is undocumented in the United States.

He now faces charges including first-degree assault, driving under the influence of alcohol and manslaughter.
