What we know about the Columbia County shooting
At approximately midnight Saturday, Columbia County deputies responded to the 5600 block of Washington Road in Appling for a shooting, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
Curry and her boyfriend, Robinson, were allegedly arguing at a house party. Witnesses told deputies Robinson was "flashing a handgun and making threats," according to the release. Witnesses said they attempted to defuse the situation and the couple decided to leave.
When Curry and Robinson got in their car, witnesses reported Robinson was "waving a gun in the air" while firing rounds toward the house from the passenger side of the car as it was leaving on Washington Road, according to the release.
Lazenby later admitted to returning fire from the driveway toward the car, firing rounds from a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber handgun, according to the release. The car had one bullet hole in the trunk, near the license plate, which is believed to have been the round that struck the 6-year-old, who was seated in the middle of the back seat.
Deputies met with Curry on Washington Road as she was calling in the incident, reporting her son was shot in the right forearm while inside the car, according to the release.
