AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – Akron city officials urged residents to stay clear of some roadways as the area was under a flash flood warning Thursday night.
Akron Mayor Shammas Malik took to X at 9:45 p.m., telling drivers to stay away from Cuyahoga Street, Memorial Parkway, Merriman Valley and Weathervane.
“If you are stuck or in an unsafe situation, please call 911. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads,” the post said.

According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, Interstate 76/US-22 was closed in both direction less than a mile beyond Barber Broad for flooding conditions.
On the Ohio Turnpike, crews were warning drivers of standing water in a work zone flooded all three eastbound lanes at milepost 185 in Summit County.
The National Weather Service had issued a flash flood warning for several Northeast Ohio counties overnight:
Geauga and Portage counties until 1:30 a.m.
Holmes, Medina, Summit and Wayne counties until 2 a.m.
This comes just days after strong storms swept through Northeast Ohio, bringing at least four tornadoes and knocking out power to hundreds of thousands of residents throughout the region.
