8 Bulls Escape Massachusetts Rodeo: See the Viral Video of Their Wild Run Through Town

Eight bulls escaped their pens and ran wild through the streets of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, on Sunday, September 22. According to the city, the bulls were part of a one-day rodeo and reportedly escaped by jumping over a fence. 

No injuries have been reported as of the publication date, but that doesn’t mean the experience wasn’t terrifying for witnesses.

What to know about the bulls’ escape 

In the parking lot of Emerald Square Mall, eight bulls escaped their pens, ran through the lot, and jumped over a perimeter fence. The bulls then fled south from the parking lot towards the woods,’ read the city's press release.

There were people around at the time of the escape, and onlooker Chris Mooney recalled his first-hand experience with the incident. 

“As soon as I stepped out and I looked out there, I said, ‘Those aren’t horses, those are literally bulls, ’” Mooney recalled to NBC News. “Two of them were lying down, and another was budging the fence, trying to get out. The other ones were just sitting there.”

Another witness told WBZ-TV that he was in the car with his 10-year-old daughter when the bulls ran loose. “I looked over to my right, and I'd seen six, seven bulls or something like that, and I thought they were just walking around the parking lot with the people [from the rodeo]. Then I noticed they were getting closer, so I told my daughter, 'I think they're on the loose,' although I still didn't really believe it because it's kind of unbelievable.” 

As of the publication date, six bulls were found trapped behind a fence at a home on Prescott Street in Attleboro.. “North Attleboro Fire, North Attleboro Police, Attleboro Police and members from the rodeo at the mall and New England Rodeo were able to safely corral the six bulls into a trailer without further incident,” the press release read. 

“One bull is believed to still be on the loose. Community members should exercise extreme caution and not approach the bull if found. If found, community members should call 911,” city officials advised.  

The city also took to social media to write, “There is no immediate threat to the community. Thank you to everyone who assisted and shared information with first responders."

How the bulls released themselves from their pens is still a mystery at the time of publication, however the statement did note, “The rodeo, a one-day event at the mall, is currently under investigation.”

Do rodeo animals often escape?

Rodeo animals trying to escape their pens isn’t necessarily new. Bulls are often seen jumping around in their stalls, trying to rid themselves of their riders. This mainly comes out of a place of fear, stress, or anger, and the animal is trying to make sense of its uncertain surroundings.

Typically, though, when these animals do escape, they find themselves still on the event grounds and not “behind BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse” like the bulls in Massachusetts.
