COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Actress Uzo Aduba, known for her role as Suzanne in the show “Orange is the New Black,” and Actress Danai Gurira who starred in the “Black Panther” franchise visited the Muscogee County Democratic Committee to speak to campaign volunteers and other Columbus citizens.

Both actresses have spent time in the Peach State for work and to campaign. In their remarks they both spoke about the connection and unity found in Georgia and how this can impact the election.

“There’s things we’re pushing against,” said Danai Gurira. “We’re pushing against divisiveness, we’re pushing against the idea of speaking vitriol, and knocking people down with our words and our plans. That’s not who we are and that’s not who Georgia is.”

In her remarks, Gurira made notable mentions of President Jimmy Carter and the late John Lewis who she says inspires her to continue to participate in the democracy of the country.

Gurira gave her thanks for the sacrifices of others as she grew up in places where there were consequences for participating in how the country was run.

In Uzo Aduba’s remarks, she explained how this visit to the Peach State has new emotions attached to it. Aduba shared how the way Georgians vote will impact her as a new mother and her family that lives in the state.

“This is an election about defining once and for all who we are. That’s right. We are not a country propelled by fear,” said Aduba. “We are a country propelled by promise. A promise that this country has told us that all men are created equal.”
