After narrowly surviving a brush with Scarlet Witch Wanda Maximoff in 2021’s WandaVision, Kathryn Hahn’s evil spell-caster Agatha Harkness has landed her very own Marvel show in Agatha All Along.

News of the show’s arrival landed just months after WandaVision ended, thanks, in part, to Agatha’s instant popularity among viewers. The character’s new stand-alone series promises to share many of the same ingredients as its predecessor, including some familiar faces and a darkly comic flavour.

Agatha All Along will form part of Phase Five of Marvel’s ongoing cinematic universe — which also includes Deadpool & Wolverine and Captain America: Brave New World. What else do we know? Keep scrolling as we open Agatha’s spellbook to find out what she has in store for her debut Disney+ series.

Agatha All Along is available to stream Disney+ now following its two-episode premiere, which arrived on Thursday, 19 September. The remaining seven episodes will air weekly.

Marvel fans have been waiting a long time for Agatha’s solo adventure. The spin-off was first announced in October 2021, and filming wrapped in May 2023. The show underwent several name changes settling on its final title, which is taken from a song in WandaVision — it started as Agatha: House of Harkness and evolved into Agatha: Coven of Chaos, then Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.

Spooky season is fast approaching and according to these Agatha All Along reviews, we’ve got the perfect show to help us welcome it.

The Guardian called Marvel’s latest series “the perfect show for the Halloween season,” adding that watching Agatha assemble her new coven is “terrific fun” and that its “script is burnished to a high shine and slips seamlessly from comedy to tragedy and back again.”

A similar spell was cast over Variety, which said the show is noticeably different to the type of stuff the MCU has produced previously. “The mood is more referential and camp-adjacent than its franchise peers,” explained their review. “In other words, it’s more gay, a style that’s quickly matched with substance.”

Entertainment Weekly wasn’t as charmed though, suggesting the show lacks a clear purpose but admitting that it still “makes a fun enough Halloween season watch for those who love witchy classics.”

Still, our reviewer had a blast with it, agreeing that it was Marvel’s most gay-leaning project to date. As Yahoo’s write-up explained, “Witches have always been gay, persecuted while looking fabulous, so it’s only natural that Agatha All Along would lean into that.”
