Aldi opened in North Liberty on May 2. Here's what to know before you shop
The no-frills international grocery store chain Aldi has arrived in North Liberty.
The store at 725 N. Highway 965 opened May 2, making it the German company's third location in the greater Iowa City area and its 39th in Iowa.
Why is Aldi so popular?
Aldi is a global discount supermarket chain best known for its minimalist retail approach, offering a limited selection of private-label products and other grocery essentials like meat, dairy, and produce at low prices.
The grocery store has a sharp focus on efficiency and cost-saving measures, such as requiring customers to bring their own reusable bags and requiring a deposit to use shopping carts.
The North Liberty location will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, Monday through Sunday.
“We are excited to continue our expansion in Iowa and we’re thankful to the people of North Liberty for welcoming us to this community," said Heather McCarthy, vice president for ALDI in an email to the Press-Citizen. "As one of the fastest-growing grocers in the country, we look forward to providing the North Liberty community with a new, easier grocery shopping experience."
