Alex Jones Will Sell Off Infowars to Help Pay $1.5 Billion He Owes to Sandy Hook Families
Alex Jones, the right-wing conspiracy theorist who was ordered to pay $1.5 billion to the families of Sandy Hook victims, has asked a judge to convert his personal bankruptcy into a Chapter 7 liquidation.
According to CNN, Jones succumbed to pressure from the Sandy Hook families, who have yet to receive any of the damages from Jones after he was found liable for defamation in 2022 for repeatedly and falsely claiming the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School was a hoax.
The move comes just a few days after Jones sobbed last weekend over the potential liquidation of his assets, including Infowars — the long-running platform he used to spread his dangerous Sandy Hook conspiracy — and which may now be up for liquidation.

His attorneys said in a court filing on Thursday that “there is no reasonable prospect of a successful reorganization” of his debts.
The move to liquidate “means [Jones’] ownership in Free Speech Systems is going to get sold,” Avi Moshenberg, an attorney representing some of the Sandy Hook families, told CNN in reference to Infowars.
According to records obtained by Huff Post, the conspiracy theorist raked in $165 million from the Infowars store over three years beginning in September 2015 and continued to cash in big as he spread lies about the Sandy Hook shooting being fake.
In Connecticut Judge Barbara Bellis’ 2022 ruling, Bellis described how Jones’ near-decade of “wanton, malicious, and heinous” attacks harmed grieving families who had lost young children in the tragedy. As a result, the families suffered intimidation and harassment by people who believed his lies. She said, “This depravity, and cruel, persistent course of conduct by the defendants establishes the highest degree of responsibility and blameworthiness.”
