Amber Rose was the surprise RNC speaker of Day 1. What did she say? How effective was it?

"The first person I knew who supported Donald Trump was my father. I was shocked. My entire family is racially diverse. and I believed the left-wing propoganda that Donald Trump was a racist. My father said, 'No, he's not.' And when I insisted, he said, 'Prove it.'

Democratic strategist and CNN commentator Van Jones called it the "most effective" speech of Day 1 at the RNC, and the "most dangerous" for Democrats.

Conservative U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna from Florida posted "Beauty and brains" after the speech was over.

They weren't talking about a politician. They were talking about Amber Rose, 40-year-old model, influencer, entrepreneur and former reality TV star, perhaps the most surprising speaker during the first day — or any day — of the convention in Milwaukee.

The speech came after Rose posted a picture of herself with Donald and Melania Trump on May 20, and a "Trump 2024" flyer on "X" on July 8 announcing her appearance. She said in the speech that she found the former president "funny as hell."

From cheers to laughter, RNC attendees rooted for Rose during her speech, and gave her a standing ovation when it was over.

Here are some key highlights from Rose's speech:

Regardless of politics, all parents want better for their children.

During the opening of her speech, Rose mentioned her roles in society, and said being a mother was most important, specifically keeping children safe and giving them a brighter future.

"My world revolves around my children," she said, adding this was something all American parents could agree on.

"The best chance we have to give our babies a better life is to elect Donald Trump as president of the United States," Rose said.

Rose briefly mentioned the country's struggles.

According to Rose, some of the challenges the U.S. is facing are high grocery and gas prices, and being exhausted by the news cycle.

"Inflation is out of control and you know in your heart it was not like this under Donald Trump," said Rose.

Rose criticized the media for how Trump is covered

Rose said the media has lied about Donald Trump.

"The first person I knew who supported Donald Trump was my father. I was shocked. My entire family is racially diverse. and I believed the left-wing propoganda that Donald Trump was a racist. My father said, 'No, he's not.' And when I insisted, he said, 'Prove it.'

Rose said she did her own research by watching rallies and meeting more Trump supporters. Now she advises individuals to do the same to figure out where they fit in politically. She found her place with Trump's MAGA supporters.

"I realized Donald Trump and his supporters don't care if you're Black, white, gay or straight. It's all love," she said.

Not everyone was thrilled that Rose received a coveted speaking slot

When Rose was announced as a speaker, several conservative voices expressed their disgust. Rose founded "The Slut Walk" — a protest movement against rape culture and victim-blaming, according to USA Today — and is vocally pro-abortion and pro-LGBTQ+.

Conservative "Blaze" host Steve Deace commented, "If this is winning the culture war it’s for a culture I want no part of."
