American hip-hop artiste Ms. Lauryn Hill to headline Singapore International Jazz Festival 2018
Famously known as the female lead of ’90s hip-hop group The Fugees, American singer-songwriter Ms. Lauryn Hill will be performing in Singapore for the first time this April as part of the headlining act for the annual Singapore International Jazz Festival.
The event will return to Marina Bay Sands from 6 to 8 April and will also see other acts such as English jazz-pop artiste Jamie Cullum and American singer Lalah Hathaway, the daughter of music icon Donna Hathaway. This will be Cullum’s second appearance at the festival.
Hill, who will be performing at The Late Show on 7 April, was famous for being the voice of the Fugees’ rendition of “Killing Me Softly”, which was originally by ’70s soul singer Roberta Flack. The group, which also consisted of rapper Wyclef Jean and Pras, was formed some time in 1990 and recorded two albums “Blunted on Reality” and “The Score” before disbanding in 1997.
The 42-year-old singer went on to pursue a solo career and released the album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” in August 1998 with hit songs such as “Doo-Wop (That Thing)”.
Other artistes lined up for this year’s event include Estelle, Parov Stelar, Tompi, House of the Gypsies and Brand New Heavies.
Tickets to the main stage are priced at $108 for early birds (until 10 February), $138 for advance purchase and $168 for those purchased at the door. Meanwhile, tickets to the festival’s Late Show are priced from $108 to $168 for Friday (6 April) and $138 to $198 for Saturday (7 April). Sales start on 1 February at 12pm.
