GRAND CHUTE, Wis. (WFRV) – A local veteran lost his newly purchased home to a fire in August, and on Monday, American Legion Post 38 in Appleton stepped in with a $2,000 donation to help him rebuild his life.

While the money can’t replace the personal mementos from Austin Prudom’s first 25 years of life, the organization hopes it will provide some support as he works to get back on his feet.

“I hate to keep saying ‘amazing,’ but that’s what it is. People don’t have to do anything, yet they see someone in trouble and say, ‘I can help.’ It makes me think that in the future, I would like to do the same for someone if I see something like this happen to them,” said Austin Prudom, U.S. Navy Veteran.

The post also covered a year-long membership for Austin with the organization.
