Amherst man admits to killing mother in 2022

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — An Amherst man has admitted to killing his mother in 2022, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday.

Om Samant, 36, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in connection. He had initially been charged with second-degree murder.

Samant beat and stabbed his mother, 58-year-old Jagruti Samant, to death at their home on Thistle Lea on the morning of Dec. 26, 2022. Jagruti Samant was pronounced dead at the scene.

He faces a maximum of 25 years in prison when he is sentenced on Dec. 17. He is being held without bail.
