Amherst man dead after motorcycle crash in Town of Collins

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — An Amherst man was pronounced dead following a motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon in the Town of Collins, New York State Police announced.

Police said around 12:24 p.m., troopers identified one motorcycle off Zoar Valley Road near Otto Road.

An investigation found that 68-year-old Mark Burkholder was traveling eastbound on Zoar Valley Road when he lost control after he ran over gravel, struck a ditch on the north side of the roadway, and was thrown from the motorcycle, officials said.

Troopers provided lifesaving measures and Gowanda EMS arrived to continue aid for head and neck injuries, police said.

Burkholder was then transported to Bertrand Chaffee Hospital and was pronounced deceased, according to NYSP.
