Amherst man arrested after standoff that stemmed from domestic incident

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — An Amherst man is facing charges in connection with an alleged domestic incident that led to a multi-hour standoff Tuesday morning at a home on North Bailey Avenue, according to police.

Police responded to the 4800 block of Bailey after a 911 call around 1 a.m. A male resident, identified as Rayquell Grant, is alleged to have fled when police arrived and returned around 4:30 a.m. through a rear window, and police established a perimeter.

A WIVB photographer who had been on scene since around 7 a.m. said he heard police using a megaphone to address someone to answer the phone or come to the window with their hands up. A woman and two children eventually left the home.

Police located Grant hiding in the attic of the home following a search and removed him around 11:15 a.m. He is charged with first-degree criminal contempt, criminal obstruction of breathing and endangering the welfare of a child.

Multiple roads were closed throughout the morning but will open back up. Police said the situation was an isolated incident.
