BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — An Amherst woman has been sentenced to 18 years to life in prison for killing her newborn baby boy in 2020, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday.

Andee Wright, 33, killed the baby during the early morning hours of Oct. 5, 2020. She was alone in the bathroom of a home on Eggert Road in Tonawanda when she gave birth to the baby at 37 weeks. She did not call 911 for assistance.

Wright was found by her boyfriend later that morning, who called 911. The baby was found dead in a trash can in the basement. The baby was born alive, but died from traumatic brain injuries caused by blunt force and “focally penetrating impacts to the head.”

Wright was found guilty of second-degree murder in June. It was her second trial after a mistrial was declared in her first trial in December 2023.
