Another closure: Brooklyn Asian restaurant and sushi bar calls it quits

After three years, a fast-casual Asian restaurant and sushi bar abruptly closed in the historic Brooklyn neighborhood near downtown Jacksonville.

Bento Asian Kitchen + Sushi shut its doors at the close of business Monday at 50 Riverside Ave. in Brooklyn Place, home to Chipotle Mexican Grill and Panera Bread Co.

The Bento sign was removed from the building on Tuesday, and on Wednesday afternoon, employees were seen removing the furniture and equipment from the restaurant.

The employees declined to comment. Officials with the restaurant chain couldn't be reached immediately for comment.

Bento's restaurant at 4860 Big Island Drive #1 in The Markets at Town Center remains open.

Founded in Gainesville in 2002, Bento Asian Kitchen + Sushi lists 20 restaurants throughout Florida on its website. The chain is known for its menu of dishes rooted in Japan, China, Taiwan and Korea.

The Brooklyn Place location opened in March 2021.
