Another scorcher Thursday. Watching a tropical wave in the Atlantic.
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Another hot one on tap Thursday. Heat Advisory issued from 10AM-7PM with feels-like temperatures 105-112. Stay cool, hydrated & limit physical activities outdoors.
Rain chances remain slim through Friday, which means temperatures will continue to be 2-4 degrees above normal with daily heat advisories likely. Rain chances increase by Saturday-Sunday, which will limit the heat just a bit.
TROPICS WATCH — A deeper dive into a tropical wave that is worth closely monitoring, especially in Florida this weekend-early next week. Gulf Coast should continue to monitor as long-term track, intensity remain highly unclear.
There has been a notable western shift in latest model guidance with most reliable models now bringing a weak system(depression or tropical storm) towards the eastern Gulf/Florida by Saturday-Monday.
Regardless of tropical development, the potential exists for heavy rainfall across South Florida this upcoming weekend.
A word of caution. Water temperatures are exceptionally warm in the upper 80s in the Gulf of Mexico & wind shear looks favorable. These ingredients typically favor strengthening, and I don’t think a hurricane can be written off the table with this system. We’re fortunate that the system has a lot of land interaction to contend with in the short term to hinder organization attempts.
Exact strength/intensity is nearly impossible to predict given we do not even have a closed low at this point, so we can’t latch onto one intensity solution at this time.
One thing that’s sticking out to me is the SLOW motion of the system by Sunday/Monday as steering currents start to halt. Regardless of system’s exact strength, this could be quite a rainfall producer for someone. Right now, that could be across the peninsula of Florida.
