Arizona presidential primary 2024: Who is on the ballot?
Arizona’s presidential preference election on Tuesday, March 19, may not be competitive in practice. But it will be on paper.
While presumptive party nominees former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden have swept to easy victories in most of the primaries so far, Arizona ballots will still list the names of their challengers, many of whom have long since ended their campaigns.
Here’s what Arizonans of both parties will see on their ballots.
The Republican ballot for the Arizona primary
Nine candidates will appear on the Republican ballot. They include:
Former President Donald J. Trump.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson.
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who proved to be Trump’s most serious primary challenger.
Of those candidates, all but Trump have suspended their campaigns.
Minor candidates John Anthony Castro, David Stuckenberg and Ryan L. Binkley also are on the ballot.
The Democratic ballot for the Arizona primary
Candidates on the Democratic ballot will include:
Incumbent President Joseph R. Biden Jr.
Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota.
Marianne Williamson, an author and activist.
Phillips suspended his campaign in early March.
Candidates Frankie Lozada, Gabriel Cornejo, Jason Palmer and Stephen Lyons will be listed as well.
Battleground Arizona: Republicans and Democrats fight in court over election rules
Some progressives in Arizona are organizing a protest vote over President Joe Biden’s handling of Israel’s military campaign into the Gaza Strip. They are urging Democrats to vote for Williamson, who has for months called for a cease-fire in the region.
