Arrest made in Seventh Ward fatal shooting

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that left another man dead in the Seventh Ward on July 17.
The New Orleans Police Department reported officers responded to the 1400 block of North Claiborne Avenue around 2:19 a.m., where they found an unresponsive man inside a home with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Orleans Parish coroner later identified the victim as 50-year-old Eric Gary.
Following an investigation, NOPD officers and the Louisiana State Police arrested 32-year-old Alton Whittey in connection with the shooting on Monday, July 22.

Whittey faces a charge of second-degree murder.
