Asylum seekers in WNY may be bused back to New York City
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Hundreds of asylum seekers currently being housed in Western New York may be bused back down state.
DocGo, the company contracted by New York City to transport and house those migrants, says the city is directing them to be reconnected to friends and families in NYC or be sent to the arrival center there. Taxpayers are footing the bill.
DocGo’s contract with New York City ends on Dec. 31. Roughly 600 asylum seekers have been living in hotels in Cheektowaga and Amherst since the summer of 2023.
