Who is on Avondale City Council? What to know about the members
The Avondale City Council has six members, who each serve 4-year terms. Here's what to know.
Vice Mayor Daniel Pineda
Vice Mayor Daniel "Mike" Pineda first began his term on the City Council in 2017 after being elected the year before. He was reelected for a second term that began in January 2021, and was appointed to a two-year term as vice mayor in January.
Pineda is a lifelong West Valley resident and has lived in Avondale since 2001. He is currently business program director at Estrella Mountain Community College and is a residential faculty member.
Pineda and his wife, Olivia, are parents to four children. Pineda's term will be up in 2024.
Councilmember Veronica Malone
Councilmember Veronica Malone has been on the City Council since 2017, after being elected in 2016. She was re-elected in 2021 and served a two-year term as vice mayor until December 2022.
An Arizona native, Malone has lived in Avondale since 1983. She has worked in education for 18 years and is currently a special project technician with Littleton Elementary School District. She previously worked for Arizona State University and Tolleson Elementary School District.
Malone and her husband, Terreance, are parents of three boys. Malone's term will be up in 2024.
Councilmember Gloria Solorio
Councilmember Gloria Solorio was first appointed to the City Council in January 2022 to fill a vacant council seat.
An Avondale resident since 2005, Solorio is no stranger to serving on city boards and commissions. She previously served on the Planning and Zoning board, the Neighborhood and Family Services board, the Volunteer Firefighter Pension Board and the Board of Adjustment.
Solario is also a local manager for housekeeping at Hilton Garden Inn Phoenix/Avondale and has involved her employer in local philanthropic efforts. Aside from that, Solorio is a member of the Council Subcommittee for Boards and Commissions and is a member of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials.
Solario's term will be up in 2024.
Councilmember Max White
Councilmember Max White started her term on the Avondale City Council in January.
She retired from Bank of America in 2020 after 23 years in the financial services industry. She previously served on the city's Board of Adjustments and Neighborhood and Family Commission.
White's term will be up in 2026.
Councilmember Tina Conde
Councilmember Tina Conde was appointed in 2017 to fill a vacant City Council seat. She was re-elected in 2018 and just began another term in January. An Avondale resident since 2009, Conde is also a realtor. She founded Ascend Housing Resource in 2014, which is a nonprofit organization providing transitional housing to those that do not meet the qualifications for traditional housing. Conde and her husband Tony are parents to three daughters. Her term will be up in 2026.
Councilmember Curtis Nielson
Councilmember Curtis Nielson was first elected to City Council in 2018 and started his started his second term in January.
An Avondale resident since 2004, Curtis has served on several city boards including Water and Environmental (2007 – 2010), Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources (2015 – 2018), Capital Improvement Plan Citizens Committee (2015 – Present), and Industrial Development Authority (2015 – Present).
Nielson spent his career in the Arizona copper industry and has a bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering.
Nielson and his wife, Patti, have 9 children and 26 grandchildren. His term will be up in 2026.
