Badgley Mischka creates a Caribbean dream for its spring/summer 2020 collection
Caribbean glamour graced the New York Fashion Week runway on Wednesday (September 11) for Badgley Mischka's spring/summer 2020 collection.
The designer duo, known for their evening dresses, was inspired by the vibrant colors and allure of the Caribbean.
"We had this imagination of all the expats like Claudette Colbert in the 1930s and '40s when she left Hollywood and she moved to Barbados and the islands, you know, were so bohemian back then and she brought glamour and gorgeous entertaining and had everybody come out there from Hollywood and New York and discover the glamour of the islands," said Mark Badgley.
The American fashion house took the audience on vacation in its runway show. Bold reds, ethereal pinks and greens in floral adorned models as they walked down the runway. One model had trouble with her shoes and eventually took them off to big applause from the audience.
"We took our inspiration from the Caribbean, from a lot of tropical flowers, tropical fruits," said James Mischka. "There's guava, papaya, pineapple, kiwi, lot of flowers, also hibiscus, bougainvillea, all those beautiful, beautiful saturated colors."
New York Fashion Week ended on September 11.
