Baldwin County airport to receive funding for improvements
BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — Improvements are coming to a Baldwin County airport as the Alabama Department of Transportation awarded grant funding.

According to a news release, that airport — the H.L. “Sonny” Callahan Airport in Fairhope — is one of two municipal airports that will receive a portion of the $100,000 in funding that will help to provide improvements at two municipal airports in the state.
The following airports will receive the grant funding made possible through ALDOT’s Alabama Airport Improvement Funding Program:
The Shelby County Airport in Shelby County
$112,500 for pavement maintenance to a runway and taxiway.
The Shelby County Commission will also provide $37,500 in matching funds, resulting in a total value project of $150,000, according to the release.

The H.L. “Sonny” Callahan Airport in Fairhope
$82,581 from the Federal Aviation Administration and $4,588 from a state grant. The funding will help to construct a 13,500-square-foot paved parking lot for a new terminal, the release said.
The City of Fairhope will also provide $4,588 in matching funds for a total value project of $91,757.
