Baton Rouge celebrates work starting on 5.3-mile Plank Road restoration project

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A groundbreaking kicked off the Restoring Plank Road initiative on Wednesday, Sept. 18. The work is part of the MOVEBR Bus Rapid Transit Project.

This will repave the 5.3-mile stretch from I-110 to Airline Highway in North Baton Rouge.

According to a news release, the project will also bring essential upgrades, including the installation of new sidewalks and curbs, ADA-compliant intersections and improved lighting and signals.

“Plank Road has long played an essential role in the growth of Baton Rouge,” said Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome. “For many years, this area has needed revitalization, and today marks a significant step toward delivering on a promise to restore this corridor and make it safer, more accessible, and a place of opportunity for the entire community.”

The revitalization of Plank Road is set to start in October, according to the news release.
