Baton Rouge man previously convicted charged after drug investigation

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — An investigation by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office ended with an accused drug dealer in jail.

Robert Lewis, 46, of Baton Rouge, was charged with two counts of possession\distribution manufacturing Schedule II. According to the affidavit, he is a “poly-drug distributor in the Baton Rouge area.”

On June 21, EBRSO received a tip about someone nicknamed “Red,” who was later identified as Lewis.

On July 9, the first of two controlled buys was initiated by agents. A confidential informant reportedly purchased powder cocaine from Lewis while wearing surveillance equipment.

The 1.5 grams of drugs were tested and it came back with “a presumptive positive result for cocaine,” according to the affidavit.

EBRSO charges suspected drug dealer from Baton Rouge

The second controlled purchase was made one week later on July 16 by the same informant. In this instance, the drugs were tested and the 0.9 grams also “produced a presumptive positive result for cocaine,” according to EBRSO.

The affidavit stated that Lewis had been arrested before on multiple drug and gun charges. It also showed that he has been convicted of multiple crimes, including battery of a police officer and driving while intoxicated.

The Baton Rouge man was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Thursday, Aug. 1, and released three days later on a $10,000 bond.
