BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A nurse from Ochsner Medical Center in Baton Rouge was named to the 2024 Great 100 Nurses of Louisiana list by the Great 100 Nurses Foundation.

Carlos Williams has worked as a registered nurse at Ochsner for about five years. However, he has been caring for patients for quite a long time.

“After 21 years of nursing, I am still in love with nursing,” said Williams.

Williams said a day in his work life can change by the minute. However, he loves his job and describes an incident that happened recently.

“I go to the bathroom and come out and I see a code blue light on, I had somebody that went flatlined, for lack of better terms, went into cardiac arrest,” Williams said.

Williams said the staff sprang into action and were able to save the patient’s life. He said he considers staff at Ochsner his family and loves working for the hospital.

He said they promote a positive working environment where everyone feels welcome.

“Everyone says, Carlos why are you still at the bedside? You are qualified to be in administration or in management. But I don’t want that, I want to be at the bedside,” Williams said.
